YCAB Foundation worked to support the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and continues to support the new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its advancement of Human Development Index (HDI).
HDI’s scope of work is consistent with YCAB’s three main pillars. The organization aims to persevere in contributing to improve human capital quality in Indonesia and in countries where it operates. The three areas of the HDI which YCAB strives to fulfill are: health promotion, educational and vocational training division, welfare creation through micro loans, job centers, and seed capital for micro entrepreneurs.
For YCAB, education is the most basic building block of a nation. It creates opportunities as much as it enriches a person’s well being. However, majority of Indonesian children still do not have access to it. Hence, YCAB firmly stands behind Sustainable Development Goal 4 in ensuring there is an inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities to all.
Education counts because it:
- Eradicates extreme poverty and hunger
- Promotes gender equality
- Reduces child mortality
- Improves maternal health
- Combats HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Creates economic opportunities
- Ensures environmental sustainability
- Develops a global partnership for development
The 6 Education for All Goals by the World Education Forum (2000) are listed here.
YCAB Foundation work is in line with seven of seventeen SDGs through its three main programs:
|Health Programs supports SDG goal 3 of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages through its seminar-style trainings, educating children of healthier lifestyle choices such as drugs and smoking prevention.|
|Education and Economic Empowerment Programs support SDG goals 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 by providing affordable and accessible primary educational programs complemented by vocational and entrepreneurial trainings to all children, so that they are equipped with the right skill set to secure employment upon graduation. To further facilitate holistic and long-lasting learning, YCAB’s strategic partnerships also build institutions like learning centers and other facilities that are envisioned to serve many generations of youth.
Moreover, YCAB’s micro financing program via our business unit (YCAB Ventures or PMV YCAB) aligns with these goals as well by enabling families to uplift their economic status through expanding their business using the micro loans while ensuring their children stay in school.
|In realizing these goals, YCAB acknowledges that it requires engaging and partnering with a wide range of stakeholders across all three sectors, locally and internationally, to ensure a more holistic conversation from all partners that translate to more sustainable programs. This is included under SDG 17 of strengthening and revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development.|
