An Indonesian talent has once again brought pride to the nation on the global stage.

Rizal, a 2016 alumnus of YCAB Foundation’s Rumah Belajar Batik program, has achieved international recognition as his batik creations were worn by Queen Suthida of Thailand and the Duke of Edinburgh from the United Kingdom.

Rizal began his batik journey in Pekalongan through Rumah Belajar Batik, an empowerment program initiated by YCAB Foundation.

Through the program, he gained in-depth knowledge of batik-making techniques and developed an understanding of the cultural philosophy behind each motif.

Equipped with these skills, Rizal went on to establish Rumah Batik Eljava in his hometown of Pekalongan, Central Java.

Driven by a passion to blend modern design with traditional techniques, Rizal continues to produce batik pieces that have gained international appeal.

“This is an extraordinary achievement for me and the batik community I manage,” said Rizal upon learning that his work was worn by the Queen of Thailand. He added that it reflects appreciation for his team’s dedication to introducing Indonesian batik to the world.

In addition to international recognition, Rizal’s work is also favored by officials within the Central Java Provincial Government. He is often commissioned to create custom batik for formal and state events.

Currently, Rizal mentors more than 50 batik artisans in his community and regularly serves as a trainer in workshops and training sessions at YCAB Foundation’s Rumah Belajar Batik.

Together with YCAB, Rizal also frequently participates in Inacraft, the largest handicraft exhibition in Southeast Asia.

“For me, success is not only about personal achievement, but also about how I can contribute to society and preserve batik,” he explained.

YCAB Foundation appreciates Rizal’s achievement as clear evidence that education and skills development can open pathways to success and create meaningful social impact.
