Jakarta, 3-5 August 2016 – Learning geography and history of a country from its own citizen is surely a fun and exciting experience. For 3 days, students volunteer from AIESEC Indonesia went to 3 YCAB Learning Centers: Seasons City, Cipinang and Dorkas – Mangga dua. These volunteers come from various countries like Netherland, China, Pakistan, Tunisia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Malaysia, Slovakia, Ireland and Morocco.
The volunteers from AIESEC shared their knowledge of their countries: geographical location, traditional food, traditional costume, traditional house, fun facts, daily habits of the people, short history and the meaning of their national flag.
One of Netherland’s fun facts, for example, is that the number of bikes is higher than the number of people in the country. In Slovakia, there is a tradition on the Monday after Easter where all the girls are being poured with cold water (a minimum of one bucket) and then they do the same to other girls. This is believed to keep them beautiful and pretty.
At the end of the session, many of the students asked for a group picture for memorabilia, even they asked for the volunteers’ autograph. Furthermore, many kids were not willing to let go off their hands when the volunteers were about to leave.
One of the volunteers said that they were extremely happy to know the kids in Indonesia, especially YCAB students.
This cross cultural sharing is one of many events celebrating YCAB 17th birthday. Taking the theme “Extension of Goodness”, we hope that everyone can extend their hand to spread more goodness. Many other events will be hold from the month of August through September.
