SMK Negeri 5 Padang (Senior High School) which has been recovered by Chevron, in partnership with YCAB and local government. SMK Negeri 5 padang is one of the four schools rebuild post earthquake in West Sumatra and West Java in 2009. Chevron donates US$1.8 million including donation from the employees worth of US$ 65,000 to rebuild the schools through Chevron Earthquake Recovery Initiative (CERI). Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation Veronica Colondam explains about YCAB’s programs to Fasli Jalal (Indonesian Vice Minister of Education), during the launch of computer (IT) and English Labs in SMK Negeri 5 Padang. In this program, YCAB provides the training for teachers and the hardwares for both labs. SMK Negri 5 agreed to also give access to the underprivileged youth and school drop-outs from that community to take the certified computer (IT) and English classes there. Computer class in SMK Negeri 5 Padang where twenty percent of its students are school drop-outs. Local government, Chevron, YCAB, and Ministry of National Education are working together in the recovery process of SMK Negeri 5 Padang. One of students says that they are very grateful of the recovery process, as the facilities is much better than before especially when they have to study in emergency tent or shelter for nearly one year following the earthquake.
