Inauguration of Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson at Banyuwangi

Posted on May 30, 2013

As we remember, last year Scott Thompson completed his 1,250 km charity run from Bali to Jakarta for 25 days and raised about 3,8 billion for YCAB Foundation and Mary Cancer Kiddies. Then, as our gratitude, on November 2012 we launched the first Rumah Belajar of Scott Thompson in Kintamani, Bali.

This year, the second Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson was launched at Banyuwangi. Scott Thompson chose Banyuwangi as the second place of Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson because he loved the people there who helped him when he got injured on his way to finish his charity run. Together with PKBM Bina Usaha Mandiri & Pekerja Sosial Masyarakat as local partners, we run a computer class with 15 unit of computers. Hopefully, in the future this class can educate about 450 underprivileged children per year.

Scott Thompson said, “I am extremely honored to be here today and little did I think when I passed Banyuwangi over a year ago that would I be returning so soon. I feel very lucky to be a part of YCAB’s dream and I am delighted that on the back of charity run we are able to open up this new centre.” Scott went on to say, “If this learning centre provides opportunities, or makes a difference in the life of only one child or youth, then my Bali to Jakarta run was worth the effort.”

From left to right: Head of Pekerja Sosial Masyarakat Mr. Sutrisno Edy, Head of PKBM Bina Usaha Mandiri Dedi Utomo, General Secretary YCAB Foundation Dr. Iskandar Irwan Hukom, and Head of Karangsari Village were cutting ribbon together as the symbol of the inauguration of Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson.
