Meta through SheMeansBusiness and the YCAB Foundation supports the DKI Jakarta Provincial Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) in launching the Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog, on Tuesday (23/8).
The COVID-19 pandemic over the past 2 years has significantly impacted the community’s economic state. DKI Jakarta MSMEs are also one of the sectors affected by this pandemic. Many MSME owners have to either close down or temporarily close their business hoping that conditions will return to normal. However, some persist by adjusting to the situation or innovating new business ideas.
To introduce, promote and support the market expansion of Jakpreneurs, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) collaborated with Meta in Indonesia, supported by YCAB Foundation created the Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog. This launch coincided with the momentum of the 77th Indonesian Independence Day, where the Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog featured 77 selected Jakpreneur participants selling Culinary, Fashion, Craft, and Health/beauty products. The Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog is the first catalog initiated by the Government of Indonesia.
On this occasion, the Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan was also present to inaugurate the Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog. Through this catalog, participants can display product photos, product information, and prices that can be easily shared through links.
Through the launch of the Jakpreneur Whatsapp Business Catalog, Anies and his mother tried the WhatsApp catalog feature for the first time. “My appreciation to Meta, thank you Meta for continuing to help especially ultra-micro and micro businesses. Our principle, Meta is a co-creator, we are collaborators. Thank you for the collaboration, hopefully, there will be more of this collaboration,” said Anies Baswedan.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) continues to implement several programs to assist economic recovery in the MSME sector. Through programs that prioritize collaboration with stakeholders in DKI Jakarta, implementing these programs is expected to significantly impact economic recovery in Jakarta. An initiative to support impactful programs so that they continue to be carried out for the MSME sector to regain its strength and become more empowered.
Digitalization is proven to increase the productivity of MSMEs, especially after the pandemic. A survey conducted by Meta revealed that of 24,000 SMEs in various regions, 22% use digital applications. They also reported a higher increase in sales than in previous months.
“Meta appreciates the collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) that has been established so far to continue the help towards MSME owners in Indonesia to be able to take advantage of the power of digital technology, especially Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, to develop the business they run,” said Dessy Sukendar, Manager of the Meta Policy Program in Indonesia.
“We support the Indonesian government in realizing the vision to build future technology through various strategic investment and technology programs. Including various programs for MSME owners so that they can develop their business. The successful use of digital technology is indeed a way to encourage a sustainable local economy,” he concluded.
Previously, Meta in Indonesia and YCAB Foundation also helped to empower MSMEs with technology and financial literacy training through Karya Perempuan. “This is not the first time YCAB Foundation has collaborated with Meta in empowering MSMEs. Previously, YCAB Foundation and Meta in Indonesia launched the WhatsApp Business Catalog of 50 Karya Perempuan Unggulan. As many as 86% of entrepreneurs experienced an increase in buyers, and 78% of entrepreneurs increased their income. Through Karya Perempuan training, as many as 54 percent of participants experienced an increase in entrepreneurial abilities.” added Veronica Colondam, CEO & Founder of YCAB Foundation.
The inauguration of the Jakpreneur WhatsApp Business Catalog was carried out simultaneously with the implementation of the MSME Bazaar at the City Hall. With a theme concept that aims to display and promote the products of 77 MSMEs. Jakpreneur’s WhatsApp Business Catalog is expected to help MSMEs owners to recover faster, rise stronger, and collaborate more powerfully.
