Microsoft Volunteering Day: Teaching Social Media to Underprivileged Youths

Posted on March 15, 2013

On Thursday, 14 March 2013, for the first time Microsoft Indonesia held a volunteering activity with YCAB Foundation at Seasons City Mall. This partnership with Microsoft itself has been established since 2011, where Microsoft gives softwares for every YCAB learning center. In addition, Microsoft also has built five Community Technology Centers in four Indonesian provinces to offer courses in Information Technology based on Microsoft Office products.

This volunteering activity started with a speech from Seasons City Mall representative Mr. Fauzi, and continued with some words from Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation Veronica Colondam where she acknowledged her gratitude for the support received from Microsoft to Rumah Belajar YCAB. She also stated the importance of children to learn more about social media, especially in this global era.

President Director Microsoft Indonesia Mr. Andreas Dirgantoro then shared some stories to Rumah Belajar students about his journey from being born in a small city until holding the title President Director of Microsoft Indonesia. He also stressed the importance to learn English and Computer skills and motivated them to study more diligently.

Following these speeches, there was a sharing session with two of Rumah Belajar YCAB alumni, Dody and Asep, who have landed jobs after their graduations. Moderated by Mr. Andreas, this session was hoped to inspire the students to be able to realize their dreams by working hard.

President Director Microsoft Indonesia Andreas Dirgantoro hit the gong to symbolize the start of the social media session in Seasons City’s Rumah Belajar Microsoft. After being divided in groups, Rumah Belajar Cengkareng and Seasons City students were accompanied by Microsoft Indonesia’s employees. Editor-in-chief Plasa MSN Mr. Wicaksono then started the learning of Twitter, one of the most important social media in this era. To further add their interest, quizzes comprised of several questions were asked, on which the students needed to respond via Twitter. The session was closed with the distribution of prizes to the winners and group photo taking with President Director Mr. Andreas Dirgantoro and Microsoft Indonesia’s employees.

"Apart from the free survey software, we also have access to QuestionPro's free survey templates.
We've found many of them useful and powerful to collect insights from various stakeholders of our organization."
