Microsoft YouthSpark 2013 Phase II: Business Savvy for the Next Young Entrepreneurs

Posted on December 23, 2013

Microsoft and YCAB Foundation conducted YouthSpark phase II on December 18th, 2013, in the Yustinus Building,  at Atmajaya University. The half day seminar serves as the extension of the first YouthSpark (insert hyper link YouthSpark I), aimed  at empowering youths with entrepreneurial knowledge and motivation, as well as how to utilize  the latest information and business communication technology.  The participants of YouthSpark phase II were those who had submitted their business proposals  to YCAB Foundation, and therefore YouthSpark phase II specifically explored these business ideas, their feasibility, planning and execution.

YouthSpark’s phase II was presented by the Cerdas Mulia Leadership and Training Center, attended by 250 high school students. During the first session, the trainers engaged the participants through ice breaking activities, followed by explanations about the importance of business planning prior to business realization. Several interesting questions were shared for their consideration when starting up a business. These included whether an idea is too big or too small, the feasibility of the idea, and from what starting point does one become a successful entrepreneur.

Having been equipped with business savvy, the participants were divided into several groups, each group being asked to brainstorm and come up with at least two business ideas. After the brain storming session, some of the groups presented their ideas to the other participants.

Office Integration Specialists Microsoft Indonesia Albert Subekti, and Head of Information System YCAB Foundation I Wayan Sathya Linggawa presented the last session. As at YouthSpark phase I, both recommended the use of Microsoft Office 365, the latest Microsoft software for business purposes. Most exciting for the participants was obtaining a personalized pengusahamuda.me email domain name from Microsoft in collaboration with YCAB Foundation. This email will facilitate communications between YCAB Foundation and the participants, as well as among the participants themselves.

Both Microsoft and YCAB hope that YouthSpark not only empowers and encourages the participants to be creative, and realize their dreams, but also  to understand how to  achieve these aims in the long term by maximizing the use of information and communication technology to support business activity.
