PT DOW Indonesia with YCAB Foundation launched “Therapy in Creativity” for Mentally Disabled Beneficiaries

Extending goodness in the outer outskirts of Central Java, YCAB Foundation with PT DOW Indonesia launched Rumah Belajar Batik Samekto Karti in a program called “Therapy in Creativity”. Focusing on the mentally disabled, this collaboration aims to provide new skills and help these participants with their rehabilitation therapy, which will equip them to be better prepared and re-enter the community with better composure and confidence.

Participants of this Rumah Belajar Batik, are people of different ages ranging from 20 to more than 40 years old who have mental health challenges such as delusional disorder (15%), bipolar disorder (40%), and schizophrenia (45%). As recommended by the caretakers of these participants have been equipped with complete batik supplies and tools to facilitate male and female participants separately.

The batik training conducted was enthusiastically appreciated by the participants and focuses mainly on batik design and the 2 different batik-making methods, Batik Tulis and Batik Cap. With thorough guidance from the trainers, participants were encouraged to be creative in designing and expressing their thoughts in batik patterns.

Other than learning new skills, this program aims to help the participant’s rehabilitation journey towards mental stability and assertiveness. Batik making helps them with motor therapy as well as to practice focus and discipline Throughout the training, trainers assisted rehabilitation centers in observing the participants’ progress. Their behaviors, interests, and talents are also carefully monitored and categorized in batik design, making, and coloring.
