The Inauguration of Rumah Belajar HSBC: Arming The Future of Indonesian Youths

Posted on April 30, 2013

On 8th of April 2013, HSBC Indonesia and YCAB Foundation inaugurated Rumah Belajar HSBC that aims to provide education to underprivileged youths at Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta. With the provision of vocational courses, it is hoped that Indonesian youths will have the opportunity to improve their socio-economic status to a better future.

Rumah Belajar HSBC is a part of HSBC Future First program which has consistently supported education and vocational skills provision as a way to economy stability. Developed in 2006, HSBC Future First program has helped more than 500,000 teenagers throughout the world to have education.

Vice President Corporate Sustainability HSBC Indonesia Nuni Sutyoko said that HSBC believes in education as one of the most important pillars in eradicating poverty. Thus, through this program, HSBC commits to support underprivileged youths so that they can explore their potentials in building a better future.

Rumah Belajar HSBC is a part of YCAB Foundation’s second pillar, HoLD (House of Learning and Development), which has targeted to build 18-20 Rumah Belajar learning centers in 2013. This learning center offers two vocational courses, which are run under HoPE (Hands-On Operation for Entrepreneurship). These courses are mechanics training (Rumah Mekanik) and saloon training (Rumah Cantik). Both courses are given by certificated trainers.

In June 2013, Rumah Belajar HSBC will expand their classes into providing Package B Basic Education (Junior High School equivalent), as well as English and Computer courses that are certified by BINUS University.

In this opening event there were also free hair wash and oil change to the local people.

Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation Veronica Colondam also acknowledged her gratitude to HSBC who is willing to support the education of underprivileged youth and hold a volunteering event which was attended by HSBC employees. YCAB Foundation hopes all the students can use the skills they learn to also have entrepreneurial spirit.

This inauguration event was attended by Chris Murray as Chief Risk Officer HSBC Indonesia, Rahmat Koesnadi as representative of Social Welfare Ministry, and Veronica Colondam as Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation.
