After completing his mission in “Berlari Terus: Bali to Jakarta” early this year, Scott Thompson last week saw the result of his hard earned effort of his charity run.
YCAB Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of the 1250 km journey, has allocated the funding to build Rumah Belajar (learning center) for the underprivileged children and high school drop-outs in Kintamani, Bali. Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson was launched on 22 November 2012 at Sangon, Kintamani, Bali. Opening remarks was given by representative of Songan, Mr. Ketut Sabtu.
I Gde Mangun from Cempaka Putih Foundation, who supports Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson by providing the classroom, also gave remarks. He said that there are so many underprivileged children in Kintamani that can benefit from education. He was very grateful to have Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson in the area that will open the door to the students to get a better education and better future.
Veronica Colondam, Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation also added that in addition toRumah Belajar in Bali, there will be three other Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson that will be built along the path of Scott Thompson from Bali to Jakarta. She also added that she saw the potential for the other vocational programs to be offered in the future such as beauty class, hospitality class, especially café & restaurant. The hope of the vocational program is to give the graduates of Rumah Belajar immediate employment opportunities.
Last but not least, Scott Thompson gave a few words in bahasa Indonesia. He thanked everyone who had supported him from the beginning. The opening of this Rumah Belajar made him feel that his 1,250km run is really worthwhile and was doubly thrilled to see it turned into something as tangible as this learning centre. He’s convinced that it will bring positive impacts towards youth education in this very special part of Bali
