UNODC Presents The Life Awards for Asia Pacific Region

Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation giving a speech on the history of The Life Awards and its objectives in Goethe Haus, June 24, 2011 prior to awards announcement. The Life Awards is a program initiated by YCAB, in partnership with Media Group, Masima Group, United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and National Narcotics Board (BNN). The President Director of Media Indonesia, Lisa Luhur, giving a speech about the importance role media has in spreading the messages and improving public awareness on drugs abuse issues. She mentioned that the awards given to journalists was as a form of appreciation and incentives to continue to advocate and educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and free sex and the pivotal role each family has in preventing risky behaviors among youths. UNODC’s representative for South East Asia and the Pacific region, Garry Lewis, giving a speech about the world of drugs abuse at the same time commending YCAB in initiating the Life Awards. After being held for a number of years at national level, this year The Life Awards goes regional and open for jounalists from Asia Pacific region. The theme is “Drugs and Sex Among Youth: Facts and Latest Situation”. The winners and the honorable awards recipients take picture after the announcement. The awards are for five categories: radio, printed media, multimedia, television, and photography, and selected based on their publication during the periode of Jan 1, 2010 – Apr 25, 2011. This year, with the support from Telkomsel and Chevron, The Life Awards awards US$ 2,500 for the first winner and US$ 1,000 for the runner-up of each category.
