To develop students’ potential, McKinsey & Company launched an initiative called the Young Leaders for Indonesia (YLI) in 2008. YLI program aims to develop students’ potential by introducing leadership and proactive problem solving skills through a fieldwork and forum approach.
This program will help the final year university students develop their vision on how they can support Indonesia’s development; and to help them transition to their first career post-graduation.
Through careful selection, top 60 students from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore are chosen to be part of the event. These students represent more than top 30 universities in the countries.
The event was divided into 3 forum. Forum 1 was themed “Lead Self” and was held on April 12-13, 2014, where participants were asked to develop a 2-month personal leadership project. In this forum, participants learned how to sharpen their problem solving skill using McKinsey approach.
Forum 2 was themed “Lead Others”, held on June 7-8, 2014. The participants were assigned to work on a team project with guidance from two coaches to build and lead a high performing team.
Forum 3, the final forum was themed “Lead Change”, held on September 6-7, 2014. In this forum, the participants learned more about how to lead changes in Indonesia from the experiences shared by established leaders.
Along with Veronica Colondam, YLI National Wave 6 presents prominent Indonesian leaders who delivered inspirational speeches and provided thought provoking interactions with the participants. These speakers include Handry Satriago, CEO of GE Indonesia, Agus Martowardojo, Governor of Bank Indonesia, Ari Soemarno, former CEO of Pertamina, Shinta Kamdani, Managing Director of Sintesa Group, and many more.
