Fate Does Not Determine Destiny

Posted on August 31, 2021

We cannot choose what kind of family we are born into. Wahyu Raihan, a boy with big dreams, was born into an underprivileged family, where his father works as an air conditioner technician and his mom stays at home to take care of their family. However, visions of his future are unblurred and undeterred by the said situation, being the eldest of 3 siblings, he is determined to change his family’s destiny.

“Being the eldest of three siblings, I want to make my parents proud and happy to see their eldest son succeed,” added Wahyu.

Having a big dream was not enough. Wahyu’s journey to success was not a walk in the park. With low grades at school and insufficient funds to pursue his education, he was enrolled into YCAB Foundation’s learning Center that provides education for children just like Wahyu.

Through sheer hard work and perseverance, ranking in the top 3 in class, Wahyu was awarded a scholarship at Global Sevilla; a private high school. Upon completion, Wahyu applied for a scholarship through SBMPTN and was accepted in one of Bandung’s top state University, Institut Seni Budaya Indonesia (ISBI).

Wahyu Raihan’s artistic talent is evident from his achievements:

  • 2nd place in the Poster Competition organized by the Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB)
  • 1st place in the Poster Competition organized by the Indonesian Agricultural Consortium
  • 1st place in the Mask Design Competition organized by the YCAB Foundation inauguration of Women’s Day
  • 3rd place in the Poster Competition, with the theme Hero’s Day organized by the University of Delihusada

“Getting a scholarship at Global Sevilla School is a huge opportunity for me. I can develop myself rapidly and be much more advanced than before with adequate facilities. The mindfulness program held by Global Sevilla helps me to set plans and goals every day. This, allows me to optimize my time and produce works of art that are better every day. The full self-control that is always taught at school makes me focus on making every decision I make, to get maximum results.”, explained Wahyu.
