In February 2017, YCAB Foundation as one of Facebook global partners based in Indonesia was proud and glad to be invited as one of the panelist at Facebook Global Safety Network Summit 2017 in Washington D.C, United States. Rezha Bayu Oktavian, serving as Program Specialist was our representative to attend this summit as Rezha was assigned as Project Manager of Think Before You Share campaign in collaboration with Facebook back in 2016 and is actively engaged on the effort of creating positive change upon online well-being in Indonesia.
“Raising youth awareness upon online well-being, is not about telling them what to do. It is all about making sure that they contribute, are engaged, and speak up”, Rezha said on the panel entitled Building Online Critical Thinking: From What We Share to What We Consume.
The previous program of Think Before You Share has been a successful and significant platform that has led contribution of youth to find tangible solution to create a safer internet and social media. Through the focused group discussion conducted in seven (7) cities, youth have been able to demonstrate their ideas and to create Action Plans. Reaching out more youth, we also launched an online campaign challenge through dosomethingindonesia.org platform. This campaign challenge aimed to encourage youth to take actions by having positive post on their social media.
With all what YCAB Foundation and Facebook have achieved, Rezha believes that other country could also create their successful platform for the youth. Rezha shared to the participants that one important think to engage the youth is that we have to recognize the characteristic of the youth itself, then find out what effective method and suitable approach to make them contribute. At the of the panel, Rezha emphasized that everyone should be actively involved to make sure the our online space is safe because the change starts with us.
After the summit, Rezha was interviewed by Voice of America (VoA) Indonesia in Washington, D.C. Thus, to know further about the summit and the involvement of our organization, click the link below:
