This year Berlari untuk Berbagi (Running for Sharing) Helps Develop Business for Underprivileged Women in Indonesia
Jakarta, 9 October 2011 – Today, a team of Indonesian runners who would be taking part in the New York Marathon on 6 November 2011 completed a training session for the event, by run from Senayan-Monas-Senayan. The team, which consisted of 22 runners, i.e. Sandiaga S. Uno, Dino Patti Djalal, Anindya N. Bakrie, Diono Nurjadin, and other young professionals, aimed to make a significant social contribution through the program Berlari untuk Berbagi (BUB), initiated by Sandiaga S. Uno in 2009.
Having previously participated in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon in July 2011, for the fourth time the young entrepreneur – affectionately nicknamed as Sandi − would raise funds to be donated to several charity organizations, including YCAB Foundation through his initiative ‘Berlari untuk Berbagi’. In November 2011, Sandi would invite organizations and individuals to donate Rp 40 million for each kilometer he ran, and he would double the donation through a matching funds scheme. So, the appointed foundations by each ‘BUB’ donor would get Rp 80 million per km.
‘BUB’, together with YCAB Foundation, aimed to raise Rp 4 billion that would serve as a social perpetual investment through an economic empowerment program for underprivileged mothers. The empowerment program would be implemented in one cluster appointed by BUB. The beneficiaries will also get additional training and the program would undergo continuous monitoring. Each cluster will empower 2,100 micro entrepreneurs and will financing one House of Learning (Rumah Belajar) to educate 250 school dropouts and underprivileged youth.
During a press conference held following the training session, Founder/CEO YCAB Foundation Veronica Colondam stated that the social investment model implemented by YCAB Foundation is a breakthrough that connects the children’s education with access to microloans for entrepreneurship. “The funds collected through this program will be useful for the community empowerment in our fourth cluster. This year, YCAB Foundation has provided microloan assistance to 6,000 small entrepreneurs in our existing three clusters. Along with BUB, we expect to reach 8,000 underprivileged mothers. This is a part of our commitment to improve the quality of education and public welfare” Veronica said.
Meanwhile, Sandiaga S. Uno stated that there were several runners who would be participating in the New York Marathon 2011 to support the BUB program. He also said that everyone could contribute to their surroundings, and even a hobby could turn into a good cause. “We hope that our collaboration with YCAB Foundation can contribute to the economic empowerment of entrepreneurs in Indonesia, which can positively affect the country’s economic growth” he concluded.

About the New York Marathon
The New York City Marathon was first held in 1970, which entails running for four laps circling the Central Park. In 1976, the New York Road Runners (NYRR) moved the marathon route to several streets in the five boroughs of New York: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. The route required runners to run past a number of neighborhoods with a variety of cultures and were ethnically diverse, across five bridges, prior to meeting the finish line at Tavern on the Green at the Central Park.
New York Marathon is one of the world’s largest footrace events attended by more than 100,000 applicants each year. This year (2011), the New York Marathon was held on November 6, 2011 and participants comprised of world-class professional athletes were running to win a cash prize of more than US$600,000. This event would be witnessed by two million people in New York and 315 million worldwide television commentators.
