Groupon Indonesia Launches ‘Groupon Cares’ Program to Help School Dropouts through YCAB Foundation
Jakarta, 19 October 2011 – Groupon Indonesia, a local affiliation of the world’s largest daily deals website, has launched a charity program to help school dropouts through Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB Foundation). “Groupon Cares” was initiated by Groupon Indonesia, which led by Jason Lamuda and Ferry Tenka, aims to help school dropouts to continue their education and allowing them a chance at a brighter future.
Through a simple and attractive donation scheme, both merchants and customers can contribute to reducing the dropout rate in Indonesia. Customers will automatically donate Rp 1,000 to YCAB Foundation for any purchase of discount vouchers, and Groupon Indonesia will double the donations collected at the end of the period to be donated to YCAB Foundation.
As a growing company in Indonesia, Groupon Indonesia realizes the importance of education in Indonesia. Along with more than one million active members, hundreds of merchants, and YCAB Foundation, Groupon Indonesia held Groupon Cares program over the period of October-November 2011 to help school dropouts get better education. Groupon and YCAB Foundation believe that there are plenty of opportunities for people to participate to support the education in the country.
“Fundraising through voucher purchasing in our program will start a new trend that inspires others involved in charity work – further proving that charity can be done in simple and exciting ways. Directorate General of Basic Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture data illustrate that there a mere 23% of junior high school students could further their education to a higher level; this became our main consideration to help reduce the school dropout rate in Indonesia through YCAB Foundation” Co-founder of Groupon Indonesia Ferry Tenka said.
He also stated that Groupon Indonesia chose YCAB Foundation for its credible track record in providing assistance for Indonesian children to get quality education; especially children who are school dropouts and underprivileged youth.
Meanwhile, Chief of Development and Communications Officer (CDCO) YCAB Foundation Ira Guntur stated that YCAB Foundation welcomed this cooperation. “We hope this program can become an inspiring success story on a simple and unique way to contribute to our surroundings. We will allocate the entire proceeds from this program to provide quality education for school dropouts in Indonesia through our Rumah Belajar (House of Learning)”, she concluded.
