To Mitigate Unemployment, YCAB Foundation and Seasons City Mall Hold Job Fair and Vocational Skills Training
Jakarta, 29 February 2012 – Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB Foundation), together with Seasons City Mall held a job fair and vocational skills training for senior high school graduates in Jakarta. The job fair, which was held for the second time, took place at Seasons City Mall and saw the participation of 11 companies. Visitors were given the opportunity to attend workshops on entrepreneurship, creativity, and Curriculum Vitae-making.
Carrying the theme of “ Learning, Education, Accessibility, and Prosperity ”, the one-day event provided various positions such as call center officer, administration staff, data entry, cashier, waitress, field officer, and Sales Promotion Girl (SPG). The 11 participant companies were Blue Bird Group; Domino’s Pizza; PT Lion Super Indo; Femina Group; Koperasi YCAB; PT Mitracomm Eka Sarana; PT Anugerah Tokomoto Indonesia; PT Pazia Pillar Mecycom; PT Bumi Karya Persada; PT Yada Indonesia; and PT Anugerah Karisma.
General Secretary YCAB Foundation dr. Iskandar Irwan Hukom said that the job fair was part of YCAB’s Hands-on Operation for Entrepreneurship (HOpE) initiative, which focuses on job placement and entrepreneurship. He cited data from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration which stated that Indonesia saw 7.5 million unemployed citizens as of January 2012. Dr. Iskandar Irwan Hukom hoped that the event would help the government achieve its target to reduce unemployment down to 5 million by 2014.
“This event targets senior high school graduates, as the unemployment rate of senior high school graduates is higher than other school levels. The data by Central Statistics Body as of August 2011 stated that there were 3,074,946 unemployed senior high school graduates; according to World Bank, the number is five times higher than the average unemployment rates of other countries. Therefore, we decided to hold this event to prepare our youth in facing global market challenges as we are looking at greater turbulence compared to last year.”
Meanwhile, General Manager Property Management Seasons City Mall Yogi Suprayogi stated that he hoped that the event will be held continuously and reach more people each year. He further said that the job fair held by YCAB Foundation was very unique, as it had a specific target audience − senior high school graduates − who found the fair extremely helpful in helping them secure job opportunities. “Not all senior high school graduates enjoy the privilege of continuing their studies to university. Therefore, we believe that this event would serve them well in giving them access to job opportunities, and which in turn, would help reduce the unemployment rate. We also hope that this event would encourage other entrepreneurs to establish a partnership with Seasons City.” he concluded.
