SMS Donation Program First Phase Raises Rp 45 Million for YCAB Foundation
Jakarta, 17 November 2011 – Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB Foundation) was a recent beneficiary of a Rp 45,041,761 donation from XL Axiata, which was handed over on Thursday (11/16). The donations, which would be allocated to improve children’s welfare, were raised through the first installation of the SMS Donation program, from February 1 to 30 September 2011.
SMS Donation Program by XL was a social initiative that facilitates XL’s customers in making contributions to their favorite charity through SMS. XL customers can give donations to the organization of their choice by typing a keyword (organization’s name) and send it via SMS by typing 2000 (to give a donation of Rp 2,000) or 5000 (to give a donation of Rp 5,000). XL established partnerships with eight organizations, which are: YCAB Foundation; World Wildlife Fund (WWF); United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); ICT Watch; the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI); the HB Jassin Center for Literary Documentation (PDS)’s Literary Coins (Koin Sastra PDS HB Jassin); the Community Caring Justice Post (PKPU); and the Foundation of Wakaf Center.
During the first period of the SMS Donation program, XL has raised a total of Rp 162,668,700 in donations for eight organizations including YCAB Foundation. During the donation handover ceremony, XL also launched the second period of the SMS donation program, starting from 16 November 2011 – 15 May 2012. Aside from the eight organizations, the second installment of the SMS Donation Program also involved more organizations i.e. Dompet Dhuafa, Pundi Amal SCTV, and World Vision Indonesia (WVI).
Secretary General of YCAB Foundation dr. Iskandar Irwan Hukom stated that YCAB Foundation is honored to be one of the organization partners of the SMS Donation program. “We thank XL consumers for their support for YCAB Foundation through this program. All donations will go into efforts to improve Indonesian children’s welfare, especially school dropouts as well as underprivileged youth, through our education and entrepreneurship programs.”
Meanwhile, President Director of XL Axiata Hasnul Suhaimi stated that the SMS Donation program proved to be an effective medium for its customers to contribute to the underprivileged community in their surroundings. “This program has proved that telecommunications services are very useful in facilitating good causes and humanitarian activities; it is in line with our commitment to provide other useful services in the future.” Suhaimi said.
