Indonesia has been considered as one of the key countries to shape the future of the global economy by 2030. However, the huge population of almost 280 million people in Indonesia may be an asset or a liability for the nation. The development of the people will determine the outcome. With over 26 million Indonesians living below the poverty line and 40% of the population in a vulnerable position to fall into poverty; development of the people is critical. One of the challenges that cause poverty is the growth rate of employment versus population. Currently, the population is growing at a rate faster than available employment. This is evident with youth aged 15 to 24-year-old reporting the highest unemployment rate among other age groups at 17.08%.
There are various causes that lead to youth unemployment, especially from the ‘supply’ side, as youth problems are quite complex. To break the cycle of poverty and change the future of Indonesia, developing Indonesian youth becomes crucial, as they should reach their peak productive years by 2030.
Continuously innovating, YCAB has developed Centers of Change (CoC). This is a breakthrough intervention model that aims to touch not only the lives of the youth but also the microsystems around them. Through this, we hope to impact more people to accomplish our end goal which is to help youth to be self-reliant or in Bahasa, we call it, ‘mandiri’. There are two main activities under the Center of Change model which we name Ibu Harta, Anak Pintar simply translated as Prosperous Mothers, Smart Kids.
