YCAB Foundation focuses on equipping the youth with work-readiness and resiliency through education that lands them decent jobs and opportunities.
The basic education equivalency and other vocational courses offered in our Learning Centers (Rumah Belajar) set up in low-income communities will remain in a couple of locations in Jakarta and Bali as our signature programs. However, as we are transitioning from this Rumah Belajar model, our current focus is now tailored deep into skills advancement courses to answer the latest demand of the workforce: Coding and Programming, STEM-related skills, and vocational skills of Batik making.
Specifically, on Batik training which we started in 2015, we see a very promising impact where many of our students have become small business leaders. Their learning has indeed led them to earn not only for themselves but also for the people in their communities through job creation.
Moreover, scholarships for higher education are now also provided to support students’ advancement to higher level education especially the children of the ultra-micro women entrepreneurs, the clients of YCAB’s mission-driven microfinance. This is where the integration of YCAB’s two entities merged to mutually reinforce to achieve the very mission of YCAB. That is, to break the generational poverty through welfare creation, moving the low-income communities that YCAB serves from mere sustenance or sufficiency level to be not only sustainable but also to thrive well.
